Nice Mob Manager is a versatile Minecraft data pack that gives you control over pretty much everything about mobs, all through an in-game menu built with Minecraft's Dialog system. Only one command is needed to open it. You can tweak the size, health, speed and drops of individual mobs or whole mob groups, add Rarity Mobs that are tougher and drop better loot, randomize mob equipment, give Villagers names and voices, let villages name their meeting points, and change mob-related game rules without typing a single command.
The data pack is currently published only on Modrinth. All required assets are included in the data pack and can also be used as a resource pack. An automatically converted mod version is also available. You can download it here: Nice Mob Manager on Modrinth
The resource pack is optional. It is only needed for the Spawn Egg Locator Bar Icons and the letterbox effect shown when entering a named village. When using the mod version in singleplayer worlds, the data pack does not need to be loaded as a resource pack. However, when using the mod version on a server, you must either include the assets from the data pack in your server's resource pack or instruct players to install the mod locally.
Custom Dialogs were first introduced in Minecraft 1.21.6, so a backport to older versions is not possible.
The menu can be opened using the /function mob_manager command or through the option provided in the Nice Admin Tools data pack. It is meant for administrators and operators, so the command requires operator permissions.
The main menu is split into the following sections, each of which has its own page:
| Section | Description |
|---|---|
| Passive, Neutral & Hostile Mobs | Size, health, speed, damage, mob head drops and more for individual mobs or whole groups. |
| Rarity Mobs | Mobs that can become Common, Rare, Legendary or Mythic, with more health, a name and better loot. |
| Additional Mob Drops | Extra drops such as Sand from Husks or a Dragon Egg from every Ender Dragon. |
| Mob Equipment | Random armor, weapons, trims, banner shields, mob heads and player heads for mobs. |
| Villager | Villager names, talking, pets, random baby types and named village meeting points. |
| Wandering Trader | Wandering Trader names, spawn announcement, glow effect and extra trades. |
| Miscellaneous | Locator Bar options, Killer Rabbits, Illusioners, Baby Mounts and other smaller tweaks. |
| Vanilla Gamerules | Mob-related vanilla game rules and the difficulty-independent entity cramming limit. |
The last option, Restore Default Settings, resets every setting of the data pack, including the vanilla game rules listed on the Vanilla Gamerules page, to the values it originally came with.
Most settings are applied to a mob once, shortly after it spawns. Changing a setting therefore only affects mobs that spawn afterwards, while mobs that already exist keep the values they were given. The same goes for restoring the default settings.
Settings that are checked continuously, such as Can Drown, Can Breed, Chickens Lay Eggs or the Locator Bar options, also apply to mobs that already exist.
Mobs with the tag mob_manager.settings.exclude are ignored by the data pack. They keep their vanilla values, never become Rarity Mobs and do not receive random equipment. This is useful for map makers who summon custom mobs, for example:
/summon zombie ~ ~ ~ {Tags:["mob_manager.settings.exclude"]}
The tag has to be added before the mob is processed, so it is best to include it directly in the summon command.
